Peter Barber

Managing Director

Peter holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Planning) and a Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (RMIT). With significant experience in the planning consultancy field, Peter has an extensive background in providing specialist skills in statutory and strategic planning to a wide range of private and public sector clients. Peter has developed strong skills in co-ordinating the statutory approvals processes for small, medium and large scale projects and has a close working relationship with planning officers at local government level throughout Melbourne. Peter regularly appears at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal as an expert witness and as an advocate.

Trent Thompson

Senior Town Planner

Trent brings to the team an extensive knowledge of statutory planning processes gained from 3 years of working in the local government sector. Trent holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (Hons) from the University of South Australia and has broad experience in handling planning applications for residential, rural, commercial, industrial, and subdivision projects. Trent has developed a strong network across local government and is skilled in facilitating and negotiating favourable outcomes. In addition, he has a thorough understanding of Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) processes and has presented at the tribunal on a number of occasions.

Hamish Balzan

Town Planner

Hamish holds a Masters degree in Urban Planning and Environment and a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Environments) from RMIT. Hamish was promoted to Town Planner after a successful period as student planner, in which he was able to develop his planning and professional knowledge and skills. Hamish posses exceptional interpersonal skills and combines this with a strong planning knowledge base. During his time as a student planner Hamish was able to demonstrate excellent initiative to positively contribute to the administrative side of the office, in addition to his management of planning matters. 

Richard Gillespie-Jones

Town Planner

Richard holds a Bachelor of Applied Science – Planning (Hons) at RMIT University. He has extensive experience working in local government in regional Victoria and throughout metropolitan Melbourne. Richard joined Urban Edge Consultants in 2017 and has worked on a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial and rural developments and he has solid experience successfully co-ordinating planning approvals on a diverse range of projects. Richard also gained experience advocating on behalf of clients at VCAT. Richard is an enthusiastic team player and is committed to achieving positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

Charlie Kelso

Town Planner

Charlie holds a Masters degree in Urban Planning and Environment and joined Urban Edge in 2017. He has also completed a Bachelor of Arts (Urban Regional and International Development) at Monash. Charlie has worked on a variety of residential, commercial and community projects throughout Melbourne and combines his planning knowledge with excellent customer service skills to manage a variety of projects for clients.

Julia Frecker

Assistant Planner

Julia joined Urban Edge in 2019 after completing her Bachelor of Environments, Majoring in Urban Design and Planning. Julia possesses an eagerness to learn and mature professional attitude, which has allowed her to seamlessly transition from student to working life, as she develops her planning skills.

Shaun Tompkins

Assistant Planner

Shaun is completing his Masters of Urban Planning and Environment at RMIT and has been taken on as an Assistant Planner. He has previously completed a Commerce Degree majoring in International Business and Management. Shaun has a keen interest in connecting urban spaces with the environment and is developing a sound planning knowledge to help assist the Urban Edge team.
